A brief turkey moratorium is the proper way to prepare for Thanksgiving

I’ve made the rookie mistake of ordering a turkey sandwich in the days leading up to Thanksgiving. I was hungry in the airport. I was looking to avoid something fried. That’s how I found myself mouth deep in a slightly soggy turkey sub from Quizno’s on Thanksgiving eve.

And when it came time to use an oversized, two-tined fork to grab slices of roast turkey the following afternoon, I couldn’t help but flash back to the last time I’d eaten turkey. That year, I ate the least leftovers of my Thanksgiving career.
