Èlon Kebede stands poised beside four wedding dresses she will debut on April 26 at The Bardot [1616 Grand Blvd], aiming for each bride’s face to radiate with individual beauty. ELU by Èlon is set to unveil ILLUMINÈ, the debut bridal collection from this luxury fashion house.

The Kansas City-based designer launched ÈLU by Èlon in 2022, focusing on modern couture. Building on her previous collections—Eternal Bloom and Diaspora, which prioritized self-expression and heritage—her new Illuminè collection continues this tradition, now utilizing rich fabrics and reimagined bridal artistry.

Now, Kebede is preparing to unveil more than a dozen dazzling bespoke wedding dresses at the ILLUMINÈ Bridal Fashion Show on April 26. With this event, she is shaking up the world of traditional wedding gowns and pristine white hues.

The central question becomes: what does the modern bride in 2026 need to stand out against the tide of white satin? The answer, Kebede believes, is to shine as herself. ILLUMINÈ brings this vision to life, electrifying the runway with each model’s individuality.

This ethos is echoed in the brand’s vision statement: “ILLUMINÈ redefines what it means to be seen—not simply adorned, but illuminated,” explains the fashion brand on its website. In terms of design, this translates to intention in every stitch, aiming to integrate a dress into the very being of a bride. The spectrum of dresses ranges from simple skin-tone-matching mesh to bold shapes that highlight the face, all with the goal of making each gown a self-expression of the wearer.

The first dress exemplifies this spirit: it is sleeveless, backless, and bisected – bold is exactly what comes to mind. The hem falls just inches above the floor, allowing the bridal model’s left leg to stride forward. Multiple ornate diamond clusters tie the two halves of the dress together. Kebede first designed this classic wedding dress while at the University of North Texas, describing it as “edgy, sleek, and contemporary.”

The second dress also reflects this intention. Lace drapes from a dazzling, diamond-shaped neckline, and the fitted bodice highlights the bride’s silhouette. Below the bodice, a narrow lace panel, separated by another diamond band, flows seamlessly down to her feet. “I make sure all the mesh matches their skin tone,” Kebede explains. “Inside this garment, we use a deep brown mesh so that it looks flush on her skin tone.”

Continuing this showcase of individuality, the third dress features a sweeping train that draws the gaze from hem to face. Crafted from large, heavy satin flowing elegantly from the waist, it accumulates jewel patterns at the neckline, purposefully drawing attention to the bride’s face.

Finally, the fourth dress brings striking black accents to the collection, enhancing its bridal look. A large, ornate bow is positioned near the bottom of the sleek, body-hugging gown, and black framing along the top creates definition. These bold elements highlight the bride’s personality while preserving traditional elegance, providing a fitting culmination to the group.

Beyond the dresses themselves, Kebede is tapping into the fashion village she has created to bring this collection to life on April 26. She is collaborating with makeup artists, models, friends, family, and other artists to ensure the event is a night to remember. “All of my sponsors have become wonderful collaborators: those doing hair, makeup, and floral. It’s the whole shebang.”
