Star Strategies: Let Venus plan your date night

For centuries, people have been using the stars for guidance. The early days of the ancient study consisted mostly of whether a war would rage or if this year would yield a bountiful harvest. However, people are naturally quite self-obsessed. It didn’t take long for us to wonder what fates could be foretold in our lives, especially regarding the only subject we indulge in more than ourselves—love. 

With candy hearts and baby cupids everywhere, love is at the forefront of our minds. But, more glaringly, figuring out how we will celebrate the 14th. Whether you’re celebrating with your lover, friend, or yourself, we put a lot of pressure on ourselves to make this day meaningful. So, why not search the sky for some guidance in Kansas City spots that are perfect for you and your loved ones? Cynic or believer, some inspiration can’t hurt.

When dealing with romance in astrology, we look to the planet Venus. Ruling over love, art, hobbies, and beauty, Venus can tell us what a great night looks like for different signs. 

Let’s start with Aries Venus because we all know they’re too impatient to wait even a second longer. Passionate and ambitious, Aries Venus’s playful energy may not want the traditional dinner and a movie. Some friendly competition fans their fire, and places like Puttery Mini Golf or Blade and Timber for axe throwing tap into that fun-loving nature. Not known for needing frills and extravagance, dive bars like Chez Charlie for some darts would suffice as long as they know you’ve got their back and embrace their fervent energy. 

Grounded and headstrong, Taurus Venus probably already knows exactly how they want to spend their night. Earth sign Taurus is ruled by Venus, making them a natural romantic enthralled with the sensual pleasures of life. Inherent foodies, the restaurant choice is crucial to them. Places like Tailleur or Green Dirt on Oak offer earthy, beautiful spaces and fantastic dining options. Another way to engage the senses is candle pouring at Ember’s Candle Bar or an appointment at Massage Studio of KC. 

The opposite of grounded, Gemini Venus is mercurial and moves like the wind. With endless wonder and clever remarks, they want a date night that allows them to engage with their partner and an activity. ADHDIY is a café with tea and a menu full of crafts to learn, perfect for lifelong student Gemini. As for food, La Bodega or Triune’s shareable plates offer the chance to sample a few things on the menu, which is wonderful for satiating their curious appetite. 

Cancer Venus embodies such a nurturing, homely energy. Comfort foods in cozy environments like Lula Southern Cookhouse or Bella Napoli suit their nostalgic, sweet demeanor. As for an activity, Cancer Venus may want to take a couple’s cooking class at Taste Buds Kitchen or board games at Pawn and Pint—a classic, wholesome date night with plenty of quality time. 

Ruled by the sun, Leo needs to shine. They naturally draw attention wherever they go, and they certainly don’t mind it. Karaoke at Off/Key or a paint and sip at Art Experience KC gives them a chance to show off their creativity and relish in the spotlight. As for food, the restaurant needs to be Instagramable because you will be taking photos. Try a trending spot like The Antler Room or Lazia that serves inspired dishes with gorgeous settings. 

If you want me to be entirely honest, the most romantic thing you can do for a Virgo Venus is their laundry or meal prep. Romance looks different for meticulous Virgos, whose favorite love language is almost always acts of service. After crossing a few things off their to-do list, take them to a fresh, clean restaurant like Seasons 52. For an activity, this earth sign is connected to literature and animals. Buy them whatever they want from Under the Cover or Rainy Day Books, or head on over to the zoo to look at some furry friends.

Libra, also ruled by Venus, has a hearty appetite for romance. However, if you ask them what they want, you’ll most likely hit a brick wall of, “I don’t know, you choose!” Though indecisive, Libra Venus’s taste and intellectual senses are unmatched. Oil on Linen in the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art serves artistry in food, appealing aesthetics-driven Libra. Take a stroll around an art museum or get craft cocktails somewhere like Mercury Room or Prime Social to complete this beautiful night. 

Intensely devoted and intuitive, Scorpio Venus wants a private, alluring night. Swordfish Tom’s speakeasy or The Green Lady Lounge’s intimate venues work well to set the mood and offer a sultry setting. Scorpios aren’t shy of the taboo and uncovering mysteries; A night at The Dinner Detective can satiate their love of investigation. Though less curt than Aries, Scorpio does have a competitive streak, and a night at The Escape Game KC could ignite that spark. 

If a trip out of town isn’t in the cards for jet-happy Sagittarius Venus, try to emulate it right here in KC. Their unending thirst to immerse themselves in other cultures and places gives these fun-loving individuals chronic cabin fever. Try KPOT for a Korean hot pot experience or Le Lou Frog for a taste of international cuisine. A night in a different city like charming Weston or even a few hours’ drive to Lindsborg, Kansas for “Little Sweden” could scratch their exploration itch. 

Capricorns radiate proficiency and independence, but, romantically, they crave structure and support. They have big goals, and they need a strong support system to meet them. Classy and timeless, a wine tasting at Underdog Wine Co. or Fountain City Winery will be a tried and true date night. As for dinner, these refined people may want an elegant meal somewhere with an air of sophistication like Plate Italiano Moderno or Lidia’s. 

Every Aquarius Venus possesses a uniqueness unlike anyone you’ve ever met. They take pride in eccentricities and have a heart for “nerdy” interests. Rewind Video and Dive’s retro video games and 1990s basement vibes or UpDown’s extensive arcade selection serve their imaginative tech interests and laid-back nature. Innovation-driven, Aquarius might like a contemporary fusion dinner spot at a place like Buck Tui or German food at Affäre. Think outside of the box. 

Last, but certainly not least, are ethereal and sensitive Pisces Venus. This whimsy-prone sign is ruled by the fish, and inspired sushi arrangements, like at Prime Sushi or RA, can blow them out of the water. If seafood isn’t their style, try La Petite Chef. A tiny chef projection assembles your plate—a dinner as imaginative as them. An aquarium date at Sea Life Kansas City or jazz at Lonnie’s Reno Club will give them the fairytale romance they yearn so hard for.
