A Douglas County vineyard was just named one of the best disc golf courses in the world
White Tail Run Winery, Vineyard, & Disc Golf Course was named among top ten "winery disc golf courses" in the world by UDisc.
UDisc, the largest global resource for disc golfers, named Edgerton, KS’s White Tail Run Winery, Vineyard, & Disc Golf Course the ninth-best “winery disc golf course” in the world.
Though co-owner Dan Fuller Sr. started making wine in 2003, disc golf wasn’t part of the plan until twenty years later.
Fuller and his family turned to disc golf as an active hobby during the COVID-19 shutdown period of 2020. Inspired by Big Bull Creek disc golf course and White Tail Run’s own rolling hills, Fuller and co-owner Christy Fuller-Flyntz planned an 18-hole course that opened in late 2023. Fuller and Fuller-Flyntz worked with course designer Scott Reek, and less than a year later, the course has received global recognition.
Prospective disc golfers can play the course on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays after paying a $5 course fee at the winery. The course has a 4.2 / 5 rating on UDisc and is labeled as intermediate difficulty level. Throughout the year, White Tail Run hosts a PDGA-sanctioned C-tier tournament and other events on the course. Golfers can expect technical wooded shots, island and water crossing shots, and play through an operating vineyard.
Golfers are welcome to visit the winery before or after a game. In fact, the Double Barrel Stag (a dry oak Chambourcin finished in a bourbon barrel) and Buck Naked (a fruity red wine) have been popular with golfers.
“There are more men that have visited our Tasting Room since building the course. It has been fun to introduce our wines to so many new people. We do sell local craft beers in our Tasting Room so those sales have definitely gone up, but when the new players give our wines a try they are normally surprised that they like it and will purchase a bottle to take out on the course to enjoy while they play a round,” says co-owner Christy Fuller-Flyntz.
The tasting room and vineyard grounds can also be a relaxing spot for golfers’ guests. Guests can enjoy wine tastings, wine slushes, Kansas beers, and more in the tasting room.
White Tail Run produces around 20 varieties of wine, including reds, whites, fruit wines, and sangrias. These are available for purchase on-site and at many area liquor stores.
White Tail Run Winery, Vineyard & Disc Golf Course is located at 2327 N. 400th Rd., Edgerton, KS 66021. Winter hours at the course begin November 8, and are 12 – 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 12 – 4 p.m. on Sunday. All players must complete their round 15 minutes before the Tasting Room closes.
