Dish & Drink KC: Fall brunch flavors at Snooze and whiskey tastings at Barley & Vine
A Delicious dive into Snooze’s new seasonal menu
I recently dropped by Snooze, an A.M. Eatery to check out their fall menu, and let me tell you—it’s like fall wrapped up in pancake form.
With items like the Pumpkin Pecan Pancakes ($11.50), bursting with a vanilla cream cheese filling, drizzled with caramel, sweet cream, and topped with candied pecans; and the Cinnamon Roll Pancakes ($11.50), loaded with white chocolate chips, cinnamon butter, and more caramel, it was love at first sight… or, well, ogle.
But as tempting as all that pancake heaven was, I made a healthier choice—though no less delicious—and went with the Jalapeño and Cheddar Omelet ($14.95).
Don’t worry, my tastebuds were still having a party. Made with three cage-free eggs, sautéed jalapeños, mushrooms, cheddar, and this magical house-made herbed cream cheese, this dish was perfection. But wait, there’s more—the raspberry pepper jam added a sweet twist with a sneaky little kick of spice at the end.
It’s mild enough that even non-spice lovers can enjoy it, but it’s still exciting for those who like a bit of heat. Honestly, it’s like the perfect brunch peacekeeper.
I paired that delightful dish with Butterfly Lemonade ($5.50)—a refreshing mix of honey lavender lemonade, pear, and butterfly pea flower that’s as pretty as it sounds. Seriously, this drink is what cozy fall dreams are made of, and it went down so smoothly.
Shoutout to our amazing server, Matt, who not only kept the vibes high but also recommended the Iced Pumpkin Latte ($5.95) for a tasty energy boost. I’m forever grateful, because wow—it was like fall in a cup, but icy cold and bursting with all the pumpkin spice goodness you could ever want.
The service? Top-notch.
The food came out quick and piping hot, and the staff made us feel right at home. My suggestion is to make your way to Snooze to try out their new fall menu, but get there before the seasonal pancakes (and lattes!) disappear!
Snooze is located in Westport at 4144 Broadway Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64111.
A Hidden gem for luxe date nights and spirited tastings
For a recent date night, my girlfriend and I decided to check out Barley & Vine, an upscale craft brewery and full-service wine bar nestled in the cutest town square just 30 minutes from Kansas City.
From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed by the warm ambiance and luxurious vibes this place exudes. Between the stunning decor and top-notch service, it was clear that Barley & Vine is a hidden gem designed for a special night out.
I enjoyed a 2020 Crocus Malbec ($11.25), while my girlfriend opted for the 2021 Krone Borealis Cuvee Brut ($13.50), a South African sparkling wine—both were absolutely delicious, but the sparkling wine quickly became a favorite.
After savoring those, we decided to dive into a whiskey tasting, with each sip offering something unique and rich in flavor. Our flight included 1 oz pours of 4 different whiskeys: the New Riff 8yr Bourbon Whiskey, the RY3 Whiskey Cask Strength Cognac Finish, the Amrut Fusion Single Malt Whisky, and the Art of the Spirit Cigar Blend.
The whole experience felt fun and indulgent but welcoming, and the service? Impeccable.
While we visited on a night when there was only one bartender, he handled the room exceptionally well. He made sure to care for each guest and keep everything running smoothly. His attention to detail added to the overall experience, ensuring we never felt neglected.
And since it’s wedding season, I feel I must mention one of the standout features: their gorgeous event space. It seems perfect for hosting anything from intimate gatherings to larger celebrations. If you’re looking for a private or semi-private space with a touch of elegance, this spot should definitely be on your radar.
That’s not all.
Even if you’re not planning to sit down for a full experience, Barley & Vine has a wine store right inside, so you can easily pop in, grab a bottle of your favorite vino to go and be on your way. They even make date nights at home feel perfect.
Barley & Vine is located at 246 Main St., Platte City, Missouri 64079.
