Four Inane Questions with Q from season 16 of RuPaul’s Drag Race
If you’ve been diligently watching the 16th season of RuPaul’s Drag Race, you may have seen a familiar face—a fierce contestant who goes by a single letter, Q. This hometown queen is following in the competitive footsteps of her famous KC sistren Monique Heart and Widow Von’Du.
So far in the competition, Q has been dazzling the judges (and her teammates) with her mind-blowing runway looks—each of which Q is quick to point out are all self-made.
Known outside of drag as Robert Severson, the Emporia High School graduate has made some bold fashion choices this season, including an impressive Man in the Moon look, complete with a bejeweled, bedazzled, and besparkled headpiece.
Since Q was announced as a season 16 queen, the oft-ornate, whimsical sewing phenom has been on a whirlwind press tour and continues her appearances at Hamburger Mary’s KC.
We had a brief Q+A session with the drag darling to zing her with our zany questionnaire. That was nearly a week ago, and, frankly, we’re still covered in glitter. Bless.
The Pitch: Would you rather be a superhero or supervillain?
Q: I’d much rather be a supervillain—because they always have the better outfits!
If you came with a warning label, what would it say?
My warning label would definitely say, “Warning! Shady Lady!”
What cocktail (or adult libation) should be banished from the earth?
People are going to scream, but I have to say tequila. I went on a cruise once, and it destroyed me. I can’t even stand the smell of it without getting nauseous.
If you were a hairspray, what brand of hairspray would you be?
Got2B, of course—because it’s reliable.
Bonus 5th Question: What’s the best drag queen rule you’ve ever successfully broken?
I break all the rules successfully. I’m a queen setting my own path with no limitations!
