Photos: Ashnikko brought high energy vibes to the Uptown

On Saturday, October 14, Iconic superstar Ashnikko took stage at one of Kansas City’s most historic and legendary concert venues, Uptown Theater. After opener Tommy Genesis got the crowd hyped for the main act, Ashnikko proceeded to light up the stage with her contagious energy.

Ashnikko opened her set with the high energy “You Make Me Sick!.” The crowd was so hyped up and loud that you could probably hear them more than one mile down the road. Looking into the crowd on Saturday night you could see everyone having the time of their lives. That energy just got even higher as “STUPID” started playing. Everyone in the venue was jumping up and down and screaming the lyrics. As the night went on, the vibes and energy just kept getting better and better

Introducing her very well-known (and my personal favorite) song, “Slumber Party,” Ashnikko said the phrase “Does anyone want to have a slumber party?” and the crowd became so incredibly loud and excited that you could feel the energy radiating off the walls of the venue. Not only was she a great performer, but an incredible dancer as well and that was very apparent as the show went along. Closing the show with fan favorite song “Daisy,” you could tell the memories from that night will stay with not only the fans, but Ashnikko as well for a very long time. She put on a great show full of high energy performances, incredible dancing and crowd interactions. This show was personally one of my favorite shows I’ve been to all of 2023. The energy that both the artists and the crowd had was unmatched. If you get a chance to go to the ‘WEEDKILLER” tour, I highly recommend it!

Opening with her catchy and upbeat song, “Peppermint,” Tommy Genesis had just the right energy for this crowd. With each song she proceeded to perform, the crowd got more and more hyped up and ready for Ashnikko to come on stage. Everyone in the room could tell her music style was a perfect match for the ‘WEEDKILLER” tour. Before her set, however, I had the honor of getting to go backstage and have a small chat and take a few flicks of Tommy. I was in total shock, as something this awesome had never happened to me before. I was greeted with a very kind and talented soul who seemed to be genuinely interested in what I do. After the photos, we said our goodbyes backstage and I headed back down to the pit.

Just as I thought the excitement was over, I was made aware that Tommy also wanted me to shoot some pics of her set on stage! I was absolutely stunned. Getting to shoot onstage with an artist is many photographers dream and here I was, nervously on stage with the iconic Tommy Genesis. After her set she not only quickly followed me on Instagram and sent me messages on how excited she was to see her photos, but over the next few days she also kindly tagged me in her posts with my pictures and gave many praises to my work. It was an absolute honor to work and connect with her and with a similar, creative music style and amazing energy, Tommy Genesis fit right in with both myself and the crowd on Saturday night.
