Kansas City Irish Fest and other weekend possibilities

  • There’s whiskey and Boulevard beer tasting this weekend at Crown Center.

Good music and cold beer are great starts for any day. Find both at the Kansas City Irish Fest, which runs today through Sunday. There are whiskey tastings, Sheridan’s custard, Scotch eggs, and plenty more to munch on as you walk through the craft booths and Irish cultural exhibits outside Crown Center (2450 Grand) while you’re treated to a solid lineup of Irish bands for every speed of dancing. A weekend ticket costs $25 in advance, or a day pass is $10 in advance ($5 on Friday) or $15 at the gate.

The 41st annual SantaCaliGon Days festival in Independence is back, with a carnival, concerts, art and craft vendors, and a host of food options (think funnel cakes, corn dogs, and gallons of fresh lemonade). The festival runs today through Monday.

The Elvis Burger is back at the Burger Stand (803 Massachusetts, in Lawrence) for the month of August. It’s a patty topped with peanut butter and banana compote. If you order it Vegas style, it’s topped with bacon. The downstairs Beer Hall, the well-appointed beer bar, will be open nightly starting September 1.

Sullivan’s Steakhouse (4501 W. 119th St., Leawood) is holding a White Hot Night at 6 p.m. tonight to celebrate the end of summer. The theme is white (white attire is encouraged), and there’s plenty of white dining options, from bubbling crab fondue with smoked gouda to a white-chocolate cheesecake with white-chocolate sauce. You can sip on a white cosmopolitan or a summer-sparkler cocktail made with champagne and St. Germain. There also will be specialty wine flights and a best-dressed contest.

What have you got on tap for the weekend?
