The St. Paul and Z-Man are Zagat’s Missouri and Kansas sandwich reps

I’ve always thought the official state sandwich should have to be made with the official state bird. But I’ll admit, I’ve never tasted the Eastern Bluebird (Missouri) or Western Meadowlark (Kansas). Zagat has a more reasonable approach to its choice of 50 sandwiches to represent the 50 states.

For Kansas, Zagat picked Oklahoma Joe’s Z-Man. For Missouri, it was the St. Paul – “hot egg foo yong smothered in mayonnaise and pickle, topped with lettuce and tomato and served on white bread,” – served at Park Chop Suey in St. Louis. If you’re looking for the ultimate sandwich, Red Eye has an entertaining bracket-style system to try and determine the style that reigns supreme. But let us debate the selections for both sides of the state line. Can you think of a better or different representative for Missouri or Kansas?
