The Roasterie announces the launch of ready-to-drink cold-brew coffee
Caffeine addicts, rejoice: The Roasterie has just announced that it’s planning to launch a line of cold-brew coffee, with ready-to-drink bottled options, in February.
“We’ll have two bottled options — one straight coffee and one flavored coffee, which will essentially be like an iced latte — that will use two new toddy recipes we’ve created,” Elliot Wiersgalla, the Roasterie’s Green Coffee Buyer, says. “Initially, we’ll serve them in our cafes, and eventually we’ll have a broader distribution reach. The idea is that they will eventually be available in stock at local grocery stores. We’re in the first steps of that process. But in February we’re hoping to have them available in our stores for purchase. The recipes and the product are final — it depends on how fast we can get the bottling and production turned around at this point.”
In addition to the two bottled cold-brew coffees, Wiersgalla says, the Roasterie is introducing nitro-infused coffee, served on tap at its Factory location, as well as coffee sodas.
“The thought process was to take this one toddy and see how many things we could do with it,” Wiersgalla says. “So the nitro coffee was one of the first things we decided on, because nitrogen-infused coffee is growing in popularity across the country. From there, we wanted to try a coffee soda, which will have the toddy, natural sweetener and sparkling water served in a Collins glass — kind of like a cross between a cocktail and old-school soda jerk. We’ll launch that at our Factory location and will eventually expand to other cafes.”
The toddy concentrate that forms the base of these new products is a proprietary blend of Central American, South American and African beans. The flavored toddy concentrate also features added spices and orange, and will be mixed and bottled with natural sweeteners and milk.
“When Danny [O’ Neil, Roasterie founder and owner] and I were coming up with the recipes, I was very conscious of keeping it all natural, so that we wouldn’t exclude anyone who might have dietary restrictions,” Wiersgalla says. “We use actual orange in the second, flavored toddy. There’s zero artificial flavoring. We took great lengths to make sure you really taste the coffee in both of them, too. So the first, unflavored cold brew is for the person who wants to drink straight coffee, who really likes that flavor, and the second, flavored line is for the person who is curious, or maybe not used to drinking their coffee without flavors, but it’s a good stepping stone for them.”
Wiersgalla adds that the products are still in development and haven’t officially been named.
