Get Yo’ Mojo Workin’
You don’t have to be a wizard to figure out that you have to fill the stands to keep the mojo (a cool word for magical power) working — which is why the Kansas City Wizards have been kicking around more than just opponents and soccer balls to bring fans to Arrowhead. It seems a charm is in the works to coax current and potential soccer fans into those sparsely populated red seats.
While many twenty-somethings in the Kansas City area can rattle off the names of the top five Chiefs players, few are familiar with the names Michael Green, Kerry Zavagnin, Mo Johnston, or Tony Meola — all of whom just happen to be the stars of the Wizards, Kansas City’s number-one-placed professional soccer team. So in the spirit of Generation Next, the Wizards have brewed up a little sumpin’-sumpin’ to get the grooviest of folks to the stadium by pumpin’ up the jam. Two hours before each home game, they host the Mojo Club in the stadium’s northwest corner, on the lower level concourse at section 13. Some special ingredients — Foosball and pool tables, drink specials, and club beats — help spice up the Arrowhead atmosphere.
Wizards public relations manager Rob Thomson says that the Wizards thoroughly enjoy the support they already have but are seeking 21- to 30-year-olds to become first-timers or, better still, avid fans. “We want fans that can identify with the players, and most of the players are between the ages of 21 and 30 years old. I know that once people come out they will realize what they’ve been missing. We like to please the fans and we are always open to suggestions for more great fun at Arrowhead with the Wizards.”
Get your mojo working on Wednesday, Aug. 2, when the Wizards play the Colorado Rapids at 7:30 p.m. Show up at 5:30 for the Mojo Club, which costs $5. For more information on the Mojo Club, call 816-920-4740.
