Auld Lang Sign-off
The word veisalgia derives from the Norwegian word kveis, meaning “uneasiness after debauchery,” and the Greek algia meaning “pain or grief.” What a dumb word! We’ll just say “hangover” and let the monocle-wearing fancy lads at the American Medical Association nurse their dire cases of “veisalgia” with tablets of acetylsalicylic acid. But if you’re suffering from the grief and pain of post-debauchery uneasiness, you’re in luck: Today, Sheri Parr opens the doors of her venerable Crossroads institution, the Brick (1727 McGee, 816-421-1634), for the bar’s 10th-Annual Hair of the Dog Day, a blessed holiday of comfort food and budget-friendly hangover dissipation. The Brick does not judge you. Like a matronly guardian, it just wants to clasp you to its warm bosom, feed you, and make everything better via the liberal administration of well vodka. Imagine a dimly lighted panacea of old movies, breakfast burritos and $1 bloody marys. Now imagine dragging your hangover to the car and driving to the Crossroads.
