Saturday: Local baking experts selling sweets for charity until 2 p.m.

There are a couple more hours until caterer Gina Reardon — of Catering By Design — and her volunteers start packing up the tables and the leftovers at the bake sale that Reardon organized for the charity No Kid Hungry program today on the green space just south of the Brookside branch of Commerce Bank (6336 Brookside Plaza). Reardon and company began selling the coffee cakes, cinnamon rolls, and a variety of other beautiful sweets this morning at 8. The sale continues until 2 p.m.
Many of Kansas City’s best-known chefs, bakeries, specialty bakers, pastry chefs, restaurants and caterers have joined forces to help end the problem of chronic child hunger. Among the participating vendors: 3 Women and an Oven; André’s Confisserie Suisse; Brown Sugar Bakes; Nancy Stark of Chef’s Shop;Coffee Girl’s Café; and many others.
The Roasterie has donated a signature No Kid Hungry coffee blend, which will be served and available for sale at the bake sale. A silent auction includes items from Jonathan and Camille Justus of Justus Drug Store in Smithville.
