What do we do when we can’t quit fast food?

I have a lot of trouble with the idea that fast-food chains are part of a healthy diet or can be a system for losing weight. In December of 2009, I wrote about Taco Bell’s new “Drive-Thru” Diet.  What bothered me was that the campaign focused on making different choices, as long as those choices didn’t involve cutting ties with the fast-food chain.

But maybe I didn’t consider how co-dependent we’ve become on fast food. According to a 2009 Bureau of Labor Statistics study, the average person spent only 54 minutes a day on cooking and cleaning dishes.

And so it makes sense that local blogger JJS in KCK raises an interesting question: When the drive-through happens, what can you do to minimize the damage?
