OKC Thunder Tickets Averaging Over $215 In 2015

Since their controversial arrival from Seattle, the Oklahoma City Thunder have exploded onto the scene in the NBA. Through excellent drafting and management, Oklahoma City is one of the strongest teams in both the Western Conference and NBA. Aside from their inaugural season in 2008, the Thunder have made the playoffs every season since in the highly competitive Western Conference. Scott Brook’s squad reached the NBA Finals in 2011-12 and fell to the star-studded Miami Heat. They also made the Western Conference Finals twice in 2010-2011 and 2013-2014, losing to Dallas and San Antonio. The injuries of Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook are mostly to blame for the underwhelming 15-16 record.

According to Totally Tickets, the current average price for Thunder tickets for their games in 2015 is $216.92. The most expensive game is a January 23rd matchup with the Atlanta Hawks in Atlanta. The Hawks have been playing solid basketball in the month of December, with a record of 12-2 throughout the month. They are second in the league in assists and possess the eighth best defense (97.7 PPG). The average ticket cost for Hawks vs Thunder is $534.89, which is the most expensive price for Oklahoma City Thunder tickets. The play of Atlanta, especially on offense (11th best in the league in scoring), has ticket prices up 39% since last week. The get-in price at the gate currently sits at $28.

While the Thunder have no problem rebounding (2nd in the league) and playing defense (1st in the league), they have difficulty scoring points. At the present time, the absences of injured-Kevin Durant and often-injured Westbrook have the Thunder at only the 21st ranked offense (97.7 PPG) in the NBA. Also, they are one of the worst teams when it comes to assists (30th). Defensively, Serge Ibaka is the second in the league in blocks with 2.42.

In the offseason, the team remained largely intact. The Thunder signed one of the better three point shooters (45%) in Anthony Morrow from the Pelicans. Despite losing out on high-profile free agent Pau Gasol to Chicago, Oklahoma City hardly ever makes serious moves in free agency. They prefer instead to build through the draft where they have had success in landing Durant, Westbrook, and Ibaka.

Last season, Oklahoma City compiled a 59-23 record, finishing second in the very talented Western Conference. Led by MVP-winner Kevin Durant, the Thunder fell in the Western Conference Finals (1-4) to the eventual champion San Antonio Spurs. Expectations are as high as ever for Oklahoma City and ticket prices have certainly risen as a result.
