A burger for every occasion

With hamburgers, we’re to the point where we have to start differentiating between the various types. When you have to ask people what kind of burger they’re in the mood for before recommending a place to go, it’s clear that burgers have evolved from a food to a style of food.
The blog A Hamburger Today has created an exhaustive list of 23 burger styles. You know a list is legitimate when it makes a distinction between sliders and mini-hamburgers.
A few debates are budding in the comments, where one reader wants to know why a patty melt wouldn’t be
classified as a burger. In my book it’s a burger cousin, albeit a
potentially tasty cousin, because Texas Toast or white bread shouldn’t
figure prominently into a burger.
As long as we’re attempting to catalog burgers, there are a few additions to the list. I’d add the Japanese style burger Fat City featured last week. And finally, there needs to be a category for veggie burgers. Although they range wildly in quality and taste, they are regularly on the menu at barbecues and burger joints.
