Wine dinner at Garozzo’s in Lee’s Summit tonight

Garozzo’s Ristorante in Lee’s Summit (1547 Northeast Rice Road) hosts a dinner tonight with Italian wine expert Bill Whiting and a member of the family that runs the large Tuscan Winery Castello Banfi.

Castello Banfi is located in the amazingly picturesque town of Montalcino, where the family also runs a five-star hotel. In addition to being one of Italy’s most-awarded wineries, it has been at the forefront of addressing environmental concerns.

The dinner menu reflects the Tuscan heritage, with

courses such as cannelloni con pesce, sauteed chicken breast stuffed with mozzarella, basil and cappicolla, the difficult-to-make vitello tonnato (which translates to veal in a tuna sauce, which might sound gross but there’s a reason it’s a delicacy — it’s delicious) and for dessert, crepes with ricotta and peaches.

Each course is served with a Castello Banfi wine including

a pinot grigio, chianti, the classic Italian gavi and the extremely rare and expensive Rosso di Montalcino, made from sangiovese grapes.

Tickets for the event are

$59 per person. Make reservations by calling 816-554-2800.
