While summer is traditionally a slow time for the city of Lawrence, this week is different. The charity Cottonwood is hosting a multiple- day fundraiser focused on wine, called Salute!

Kicking things off tonight is the Mass. Street Mosey. Fat City attended last year, and saw how unlikely venues such as shoe stores and a bank were converted into wine-tasting facilities for the night (here’s a slideshow).

While the Mosey has sold out, tickets are still available for the main event — Salute’s Grand Tasting this Saturday from 6:30 to 11 p.m. at the Lawrence

Holiday Inn (200 McDonald Drive).

The tasting features more than 250

wines from all over the world, in addition to beer and cocktails (exhaustive list is here) and cuisine from a dozen

Lawrence restaurants such as 23rd Street Brewery, Marisco’s, Ten, Paisano’s and Genovese Italian Restaurant.

Also on the bill: a live auction of rare wine lots, wine-related trips and giftware. Tickets for the grand tasting are $75; a limited number of tickets for a reserve tasting room with vintage and extremely-fine wines as well as more exclusive food are $125.

You can order Grand Tasting and Grand Tasting Reserve tickets by calling 785-840-1604 or via Cottonwood’s Web site. While there, you should read more about Cottonwood, which helps hundreds of people with disabilities in Douglas and Jefferson County by providing them assistance, care and in many cases, jobs.
