Now Open: Savvy Coffee and Wine Bar

For those of you who were wondering when the Power & Light District was finally getting the LatteLand it promised us, you can forget it. The deal fell through and in its place (literally) is the chic Savvy Coffee and Wine Bar, which opened three days ago at 1201 Main.
Savvy is the brainchild of Richelle Broshous (pronounced like Brosius as in the Yankee’s third baseman) who is from Illinois, went to school in Iowa and landed in Kansas City with an internship at a finance firm. She decided that she preferred coffee to cubicles and thus, Savvy. “I actually had a friend in college open one and it’s been an idea ever since … while at the University of Iowa I worked at a coffee shop and spent pretty much all my time there … I love being around coffee and wine and I love the spot.”
As the name suggests Savvy intends to serve two purposes. To cater to workers, it offers individually brewed cups of coffee at $2.15 for 20 ounces, and 16 espresso-based drinks from $1.95 for an espresso shot to $4.25 for caramel-cream latte. Its pastry case is full of goodies from the Prairie Village bakery Dolce.
For the night crowd, it features a menu of 25 wines by the glass, including a build-your-own-flight of three half-glasses for $12. It also serves beer, digestifs and appetizers like spinach and artichoke dip ($10) and a cheese flight with fruit, nuts, olives and crackers ($12.) And yes, the wine menu is available during the day as well.
Savvy’s hours are Monday-Thursday 6:30 a.m. to midnight, Friday until 1 a.m., Saturday 8 a.m. to 1 a.m. and Sunday 9 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Its phone number is 816-471-7044 and its Web site is SavvyKC.com
