Ha Ha Tonka’s Lennon Bone wants Sharp County Records to build KC’s music community

Heaping doses of talent, friendliness and Southern grit have gotten Ha Ha Tonka far in its nine years. The Springfield, Missouri, band played Lollapalooza in 2008, and has played in SXSW’s official showcase numerous times. With a new album in the works, it stands to reason that the band’s vocalist and drummer, Lennon Bone, has plenty of responsibilities to wrestle with already; but, now, Bone’s taking on a whole new role in the music business. He’s starting a label, and it’s called Sharp County Records.

Bone’s vision reaches far beyond that of an average record label, though: “I want to be and build a community, and hopefully inspire and promote others in the community, whether they’re on the label or not.” We caught up with Bone about his past, his present projects, and what he’s envisioning for the future of Kansas City’s music scene.
