Fake crabmeat is here, there, everywhere

Nara’s Sunrise Roll combines real rice, real shrimp, real avocado — and fake crabmeat.


Some restaurants simply call it surimi, the word for “minced fish” in Japanese, and others, like Nara in the Crossroads, call it kani-kama (which sounds like a Kama Sutra sexual position — but isn’t), which is another name for surimi — but shaped into rectangular pieces.
