Fill your hole with fried dough — it’s National Doughnut Day

Whether a dozen or a box of doughnut holes, you must make your tribute to National Doughnut Day. The first Friday of June has been a round-dough-loving holiday since 1938. For 73 years, the Salvation Army has championed National Doughnut Day, which was originally created to recognize the women who served doughnuts to the veterans returning from World War I. Today, it simply acts as an affirmation of what we in Kansas City understand all too well (pat your waistline knowingly here): Doughnuts are delicious.
Krispy Kreme and Lamar’s (folks are encouraged to donate to the Make-a-Wish Foundation) are giving out a free doughnut, while Dunkin Donuts will give you one with the purchase of any beverage. Get out there and start celebrating.
