Fat cats and big dogs, a tale of pet obesity
Don’t be surprised if you look over at the treadmill next to you and see four legs. The Wall Street Journal reports that the newest class of obese Americans is our pets. According to a recent joint survey from the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention (APOP) and Banfield Animal Hospitals, apparently half of our pets are overweight and one-fifth of cats and dogs are obese (30 percent above normal weight). And now there’s a booming industry designed to slim down Fido and Fluffy.
