What was your favorite school lunch?

- Brown-bag lunches aren’t as fun when you’re an adult.
Whether you were having hot lunch or brown bagging it, not all school lunches are created equal. Gray hamburger meat and neon-red sloppy Joes were only saved by cartons of chocolate milk and cellophane-wrapped chocolate-chip cookies that needed to be softened in said milk to be eaten.
But the once-a-month appearance of square pizza, some sort of chicken finger — chicken tender hybrid — or calzone was as close to a holiday as one gets while actually at school. But these dishes were perhaps indigenous to an East Coast school system, and I missed out on the cafeterias of Kansas City (although I’ve heard tales of bean burritos, chicken patties and thin pizza cut into long, thin triangles). With classes back in session, what was your favorite school lunch?
