Lemmy graces film screens at Screenland this weekend

Readers, you’re already familiar with our writer Peter Rugg’s stance on Lemmy Kilmister’s status as a rock god. (Hell, he even ate fire for him. And we taped it.) Of course, we’re stoked to announce that Motörhead will be in KC on February 17 at the Midland, but also in film form at the Screenland. There’s a documentary out on…

Cody Stephens’ family home burns; late son’s rodeo memorabilia torched

Just because Kansas City looks like a pretty (and a little scary) snow globe at the moment doesn’t mean that depressing news takes a break. Grab a cup of cocoa and tissues, there’s a tear-jerker coming.  The Kansas City Star sports page has the story of Kansas rodeo bull rider Cody Stephens’ family and a case of double-heartbreak. Stephens died…

What’s your favorite snow song?

So, since you haven’t got anything better to do: What’s your favorite song, artist or album to listen to when snowfall has you stranded? Categories: Music Tags: Snow, songs, songs!, soundtracks

Missouri House passes bill to drug-test welfare recipients

Not to put too fine a point on it, but being poor fucking sucks. You live in a shitty neighborhood. When you walk out the front door, you see nothing but desolation and heartbreak. No chance for a future, not here or anywhere. Even the nearest grocery store is in the good part of town, and you don’t have a…

The Overland Park megachurch owes more than $13 million to Regions Bank, but there has long been question of financial accountability at the church. The Mountains Made Flat comes through with the Comment of the Day for this quip: “Jerry might even have to give…

Walgreens is rolling out its own line of beer, Big Flats 1901

Forget full-strength beer at the grocery store. You might as well just stock your fridge with beer made by the drugstore. The Consumerist notes that Walgreens has begun selling its own private-label beer, Big Flats 1901. A six-pack will run you $2.99, and a case should be around $11.50. The nationwide rollout started in December, and because alcohol can be…

Snowtorious BIG update: The snow is coming from inside the house!

How bad is the weather out there? Awful. It’s so bad that even the snow is seeking shelter from the miserable windchill. I’m not entirely sure how this happened, but a couple of inches of snow has entered my apartment, apparently through a windowsill. I guess I should shovel it before it melts and dribbles onto the nearby outlet. And here…
