ZOMBIE INVASION

Especially since Zombieland came out, some of us hardly know how to get through the days till Halloween. Good thing that today holds two excuses to gussy up in the garb of a brain eater. First, there’s the Kansas City Zombie Walk for Hunger. At 2 p.m., the undead gather at J.C. Nichols Fountain (47th Street and Main), where they’ll each contribute at least five items to help the needy. Then, at 3 p.m. the good-hearted zombies lurch, stumble or just stroll nicely through the Country Club Plaza. Donations go to the homeless via Uplift Organization, Inc. (See uplift.org for suggestions of what to bring.)Following the walk, zombies should take a couple of hours to smooth their tattered rags and get the blood smears on their faces just right for the Zombie Prom of the Dead at the Alcott Arts Center (180 South 18th Street in Kansas City, Kansas, 913-233-2787). It’s a combination art show, costume contest and screening of original horror films. Whatever cash you can donate to the Arts Center will get you in. See alcottartscenter.org for more details.
