You can get high (eh, sort of) at City Hall: Best of KC 2018

This month, we published The Pitch‘s annual Best of Kansas City issue. You can browse the results of the readers’ poll here. The issue also included a list, compiled and written by our editorial staff, of some our current favorite things about Kansas City in 2018. We’ll be publishing these items online throughout October.

Boring-ass City Hall is actually not all that boring as long as you’re not enduring some Board of Zoning Adjustment meeting (no disrespect to the committed, patient, and unpaid citizens who sit on the BZA). The building, a beaux-arts-style beauty bankrolled by Pendergast cash, is filled with lovely design flourishes to admire. But our favorite part is the outdoor views available — for free — at the very top. Here’s what you do: walk through the metal detectors, show your ID to the security guards, take the elevator to 26, get off, then take the stairs to the 30th floor. Walk outside and gaze at your city. The walls are chest-high, but otherwise your view is unobstructed. Soak it in. And bring a jacket — the wind is chilly when you’re up that high.

City Hall. 414 East 12th Street, Kansas City, Missouri.
