Here are the two questions of the night: What Is the state of black Kansas City for 2010, and what would Abraham Lincoln think? Gwen Grant, president and CEO of the Urban League of Greater Kansas City, leads a discussion at 6:30 p.m. at Kansas City, Missouri’s Central Library (14 West 10th Street) using data from the State of Black Kansas City 2010 Equality Index. The index reports details of continued racial inequality — black unemployment is three times that of whites, for example. This wouldn’t shock Lincoln, according to local historian Bryan LeBeau, who will discuss the second question. “I think his reaction would be a complete lack of surprise, given the concerns he had about this country’s view on race relations 150 years ago. Even then, some of his writings, although guarded, alluded to racial attitudes perpetuating inequality.” The lecture is free and is preceded by a 6 p.m. reception. Call 816-701-3407 for reservations.
