WRITING THE RAILS

To call Jim Lehrer “venerable” is an understatement: As an anchor of Public Broadcasting System’s flagship newscast, now called PBS NewsHour, Lehrer has served “viewers like you” for 35 years — longer than Brian Williams, Katie Couric, Shepard Smith and every post-Jennings ABC World News anchor combined. That’s a career, as they say, but along the way, the overachieving Lehrer has also found time to write two memoirs, three plays and 20 novels. KCPT Channel 19 and Rainy Day Books welcome Lehrer at 7 p.m. to Union Station (30 West Pershing Road) to discuss his distinguished career and his latest novel, Super, a tale of suspense that hearkens back to the heyday of the Santa Fe Railway’s fabled Super Chief passenger train. Admission costs $25 plus tax and includes two tickets and one autographed copy of Super; for more details, see rainydaybooks.com or call 913-384-3126.
