New York City is too expensive, and Paris is full of fascists — truly, the new grassroots bohemia begins in flyover country. Since 1992, the Writers Place has supported Kansas City’s literary community and connected authors and would-be authors. Tonight it hosts the Bohemian Ball, a fundraiser featuring food, drinks and the smartest silent auction in the city. Local writers have donated their services as editors, instructors and lunch dates. Win an afternoon with Robert Stewart, editor of New Letters, or a jam session with poet Michelle Boisseau. Other auction items include gift baskets, swank dinners and yoga classes. The Bohemian Ball runs from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Writers Place (3607 Pennsylvania, 816-753-1090). Tickets cost $20 for Writers Place members and $25 for nonmembers. Attendees are encouraged to dress as their favorite literary character.
