Word to Your Mother

After the folks at Prospero’s put one of their gently used books in your hands and you buy it, get it home, and crack it open, you feel satisfied and pleasantly surprised that they knew exactly what you needed. The same thing applies to their annual Unregulated Word poetry festival, sponsored in conjunction with local prose and poetry press Off Beat Pulp. With more than 30 poets scheduled to read over the course of the weekend, you’re likely to find that someone’s work tickles your fancy, be it the rush and ache in the works of Lawrence’s Mickey Cesar or the witty barroom lines of Charly “the city mouse” Fasano. The fourth annual event, ominously subtitled “A Poetic Execution,” runs from 6 to 10 p.m. today and tomorrow and from 3 to 10 p.m. Saturday
on a stage outside Prospero’s Books (1800 West 39th Street, 816-531-9673).
Thu., June 9, 6-10 p.m.; Fri., June 10, 6-10 p.m.; Sat., June 11, 3-10 p.m., 2011
