With Only a Few Hours Before the Big 12 Tournament Begins, How are Ticket Prices Shaping Up?
We are just hours away from the Big 12 Tournament taking place at the Sprint Center here in Kansas City. Games will kick off tonight with the number 8 seeded Cowboys of Oklahoma State facing the 9 seeded Red Raiders of Texas Tech, followed by #7 Baylor squaring off against #10 TCU. Preseason prognosticators would have laughed off Marcus Smart and Oklahoma State having to play in the Opening Round tonight, but that’s exactly what has happened after a midseason swoon dropped them precipitously in the Big 12 standings.
For those interested in going to the game, you can purchase tickets to the Big 12 Tournament at TicketCity. Tickets for tonight’s session are available for as low as $6, while the average ticket price is only $60. Session 2 tomorrow afternoon will feature Iowa State vs. Kansas State in the first game at 11am CST, and top-seeded Kansas vs. the winner of OK State and Texas Tech. Currently, the cheapest ticket you can get for Session 2 is over $150, with the average ticket price $359. Jayhawks fans certainly drive ticket prices sky high, which means the early game between Iowa State and Kansas State will most likely begin with very few fans in attendance, as the KU fans saunter in at a later hour in preparation for Game 2.
Tickets for tomorrow night (Session 3) are much cheaper with a get-in price of only $14 and an average ticket price of $74. The first game will be Oklahoma vs. the winner of Baylor and TCU game 2 will feature the Texas Longhorns vs. the West Virginia Mountaineers. The two winners of the Session 2 games will play Friday night at 6pm in the first of two semifinal matchups, followed by the two winners of the Session 3 games. Tickets for the semifinals begin at $97 with an average ticket price of $292.
And then whoever is left standing will play Saturday night to become the Big 12 Conference Tournament Champion. Tickets are currently available for as low as $56 with an average price of $210. If the Jayhawks can make it that far, expect a huge increase in prices, so savvy KU fans might want to grab tickets now while the getting is good.
