With 55 unsolved killings, Kansas City police say they don’t need more detectives

All of a sudden, everyone seems to have noticed that a lot of folks are getting shot around here, and most of their killers are going free. As the number of murders creeps toward 100 for the year, the number of those unsolved sits at 55, the most in years.

Everyone is outraged! But no one has much of a plan to fix things. One thing the department knows it doesn’t need: More detectives.
