Win or Lose, A Fiery Show

It’s been a bitter year for the Royals, but even a 12-game losing streak can’t dim the majesty of a huge fireworks display. This year, KBLV 99.7 “The Boulevard” and the Royals team up to host the Kansas City Sky Show, a pyrotechnic bonanza of apocalyptic proportions and the largest of its kind in city history. Organizers promise on-field special effects, animated fountains and high-definition scoreboard spectacles, all in the hopes of establishing the Sky Show as a local tradition and nationally pre-eminent fireworks event. The Sky Show also purports to honor the “people, history and heritage” of Kansas City. Will Walt Bodine make an appearance? Will Mark Funkhouser dress up like Uncle Sam and teeter across the field on stilts? Will Sluggerrr’s head blow up like the dude’s head in Scanners? And can anything outdo the Fourth of July on Independence Avenue? At five times the length of the traditional Fireworks Friday, expect the unexpected. Celebrate more than 20 years of defeat with one night of shrieking, explosive glory. The show follows the Royals’ 7:10 p.m. game against the New York Giants at Kauffman Stadium (Interstate 70 and Blue Ridge Cutoff, 816-504-4040) and is included with regular admission.
