Wichita’s fall events have the makings of a great weekend getaway

Wichita’s fall event lineup is a great excuse to take a road trip in the next few weeks. From Chili cook-offs to wiener dog races, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
The Wichita Wagonmasters will host their annual downtown chili cook-off at Naftzger Park on September 30. This year, 70 teams will be vying for Wichita’s best chili title. Public tasting for the event begins at noon. $5 tasting kits will be available for purchase. Admission is $5.
The Ad Astra Technology Summit will be held on Oct 2 at Wichita State University’s Barton School of Business. This year’s summit features a fireside chat with Apple cofounder, Steve Wozniak, moderated by Luis Rodriguez. They’ll be speaking in Koch Arena at 6 p.m. To purchase tickets, click here.
The 21st annual Tallgrass Film Festival will be held Oct 5-8. The festival will feature 184 local and international indie films. The Orpheum Theater and Tallgrass Film Center will be the primary locations for the weekend’s events. Screenings will be held across multiple venues around the city. Returning for its 13th year, the Prairie Fire Fall Marathon will be held on Oct 8 from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The race will take runners through a 26-mile-long double loop course in downtown Wichita. ICT Bloktoberfest, a two-day block party celebrating all things German culture will be taking place at Naftzger Park on Oct 13 and 14. You can look forward to lots of beer, wiener dog races, and live performances by Llew Brown Band. If you’re looking for an excuse to show off your dad bod, there’ll be a contest for that too.
