Calling anyone who ever made a Barbie-sized coffee table out of the white plastic thingy inside delivery pizza boxes: For the past three days, the convention area of the Hyatt Regency Crown Center (2345 McGee) has looked like it was hit by a pink glitter bomb. It’s the site of the 2008 National Barbie Doll Collector’s Convention, which kicked off this week. The four-day event is packed with fashion shows, raffles, trivia contests, door prizes, a salesroom of vendors and Barbie-doll-outfit competitions. So far, only registered convention attendees have been allowed inside the Barbie lovefest, but the salesroom opens to the public from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today with an $8 entry fee. And for more fun with America’s favorite plastic supermodel, check out the Barbie 1959 exhibit at the United Federation of Doll Clubs Museum (10900 North Pomona, 816-891-7040). On display: early sketches of the doll, which debuted in 1959. The museum is open from 10 a.m to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and by appointment on weekends. Admission is $4 for adults, $2 for children ages 6 to 15 and free for children age 6 and younger.
