Who Art Thou?

The recent cultural reanimation of Pride and Prejudice‘s Elizabeth Bennett included zombies, aliens and a vampiric Mr. Darcy. Now it’s time to revive another classic heroine. Few are more overdue than Shakespeare’s ill-fated Juliet. Her life may have ended in Romeo and Juliet, but her story lives on in Anne Fortier’s new novel, Juliet, a historic re-imagining of the “real” story behind the Bard’s most famous tale. (Translation: no supernatural monsters.) Get the scoop when the author speaks at the Plaza Branch of the Kansas City Public Library (4801 Main, 816-701-3407) at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free, and the novel is for sale at this Rainy Day Books-sponsored event. See kclibrary.org to RSVP. The event is free.— Scott Sheu
