White student giving black student a noose still not cool

Just in case we need to reiterate this — and unfortunately we do, Raymore-Peculiar High School students — giving nooses to African-Americans is still wrong.

A Ray-Pec High student gave a 14-year-old black student a noose. KCTV 5 reports that the school is looking into whether it was a stupid, stupid joke or a threat. Either way, the black student’s parents aren’t happy.

Donald and Sarah Washington recounted how the exchange between their son and the other kid went.

“He said, ‘It’s a noose,’ and my son said ‘Well, why would

I want that,’ and the boy said, ‘I don’t know, I think you might want

it,'” parent Sarah Washington said.

“It doesn’t matter if they don’t think it’s a big deal, if my son would

have retaliated or hit someone it would have been totally different,”

parent Donald Washington said. “They would have thought it’s a big deal

then.”
