Well-Rounded

New-age types like to point out the four basic elements of life — earth, air, fire and water. Other types like to do something similar by pointing out the four elements of hip-hop culture. If MC-ing, graffiti, break-dancing and DJ-ing are the building blocks of hip-hop culture, then today’s Hollapalooza ’08 at the Kansas City Repertory Theater’s Copaken Stage could be considered a perfect storm of KC hip-hop. Organized by rapper Reach, the lineup is daunting: DJs Shad, Sike Style and Jamel Rockwell are slated to spin; MCs Dutch Newman, Negro Scoe, the Naydivs, Milkdrop, Awe and Johnny Quest will rap; artist Lucid will perform live painting; and a troupe of B-boys and B-girls will represent. Hollapalooza is open to all ages, and the festivities run from 1 to 8 p.m. Tickets cost $10 at the door; the Copaken Stage is located at 13th Street and Walnut.
