Yeah, it’s cold and snowy. Get over it. This is January. And there are still plenty of reasons to get out of the house.

1. The Crossroads galleries knew better than to open their doors on First Friday this month, since it also happened to be NEW YEAR’S DAY. But rather than wait ’til February, a few choice spots are debuting new exhibitions tonight, Second Friday. Check out Saints of Capitalism — a collection of old men in suits by Ryan Drake at the Late Show. Also open tonight: Sherry Leedy and Byron C. Cohen galleries and Arts Incubator.

2. Meanwhile, it’s Second Friday as usual in KCK, where there’s always a downtown artwalk at this time of the month.

3. Elvis Presley would have turned 75 today. To honor him, Elvis impersonators are convening at least two local venues, Knuckleheads and VooDoo Lounge.

4. Movies are showing, for free, in places other than a theater. At 1:30 p.m. Saturday, the Central Branch of the KCMO Library is showing Lady in the Lake. At 8:30 p.m. Saturday night, downtown bar Savvy is screening Visioneers, starring Zach Galifianakis.

5. Everyone’s favorite sisters are on stage at Union Station. Playing through the month: a stage version of Louisa May Alcott’s classic story, Little Women.

6. Alan Branhagen is no wussy. The Expert Naturalist and Director of Horticulture is leading a winter hike through Powell Gardens, The Pitch‘s 2009 pick for Best Day Trip, at 1 p.m. Sunday. Snow boots recommended.
