The sixth annual Party With a Purpose on Holmes Street is part afternoon in the park, part homes tour, part concert and all for a worthy cause: Proceeds benefit AIDS Walk Kansas City, which helps local people affected by HIV and AIDS. Funds raised last year crested the $10,000 mark. Organizers hope to rake in even more this year — rain or shine — during the four hours when Hyde Park (Holmes between 36th Street and Gleed Terrace) turns into a party zone with food and beverages, a silent auction, kids’ entertainment, first-floor tours of nearby houses, and more. Festivities last from 4 to 8 p.m. Admission is a $25 requested donation for adults; kids get in free. Pay at the gate or reserve tickets via firstgiving.org/partywithapurpose2010 or by calling 816-931-0959. — Crystal K. Wiebe
