We can brunch at Jarocho like shitfaced royalty: Best of KC 2018

This month, we published The Pitch‘s annual Best of Kansas City issue. You can browse the results of the readers’ poll here. The issue also included a list, compiled and written by our editorial staff, of some our current favorite things about Kansas City in 2018. We’ll be publishing these items online throughout October.

We’ll happily dine any time of day at Jarocho Pescado y Mariscos, the unassuming KCK destination for Gulf-style Mexican cuisine. But we prefer to go for brunch, when chef Carlos Falcon stocks a formidable buffet with seafood so fresh we can taste the ocean brine in the air.

The bad news: brunch is only offered Sundays, and it’s $29. The good news: that princely sum lets you eat like a king. Treat yourself to bottomless oysters on the half shell, peel-and-eat shrimp, mussel-specked paella, multiple styles of ceviche, and a whole goddamn fried pompano. If you woke up on Sunday morning with a headache, ladle yourself a bowl of menudo from the soup kettle (trust us: it’s a powerful hangover cure). If you’re chasing tomorrow’s headache, an extra $14 will net you bottomless mimosas, bloody marys, margaritas, or sangrias (and yes, you can mix and match). The atmosphere isn’t fancy or formal, which is for the best: you’re going to want to wear some stretchy pants.
