On the eve of the Kansas City Royals’ postseason opener with the Houston Astros, ESPN has released filmmakers Josh Swade and Josh Shelov’s feel-good (and soul-crushing) documentary #BringBackSungWoo. The film tracks Swade’s mission to bring enigmatic superfan SungWoo Lee back from South Korea to Kansas City for the 2014 World Series.

This is no spoiler: There isn’t a happy ending, thanks to San Francisco Giants ace Madison Bumgarner. But there are a lot of good memories and fun times around the team’s rally to make the postseason, the march to the first World Series since 1985 and the way the city embraced SungWoo Lee.

Watch the doc after the jump.

And for more on the effort to bring SungWoo back to KC and the film, here’s our interview with director Swade.
