Wakarusa Electronic Stage
If fans of electronic music really are modern-day hippies, then the addition of a DJ stage at Wakarusa might lead to some interesting encounters between them and the old-school, patchouli-scented types. But if both groups stick to the PLUR slogan (peace, love, unity and respect), all should be groovy. It’ll help to have some top-shelf spinners commandeering the brand new Wakarusa Electronic Stage, including a trio of heavyweight San Franciscans. Bassnectar brings dreads and a spiritual vibe, DJ Smoove lays down dirty breaks, and the Grammy-nominated J-Jay comes fresh from a gig as the celebrity DJ at the MTV Australia Music Video Awards. They’re aided by second-generation Detroit techno-house pioneer Kenny Larkin and abetted by Lawrence hip-hop groups Archetype and the Tribal Vision, along with local DJ Ben Fuller and about 40 other Midwesterners. Most of the DJs are matched up in one-hour time slots from Friday through Sunday, giving festivalgoers a place to dance all day and well into the next.
