Waifs of the Week: Gus, Scooby, and Bella the Hound
Waifs of the Week is a collaboration between The Pitch and the local animal shelter Wayside Waifs. Over at 3901 Martha Truman Road, this ‘no kill’ shelter is constantly working to find loving homes for animals, including dogs, cats, and a host of other intriguing additions to your family.
If you’re not in a position to adopt but want to help out with the cause, or just spend more time with furry friends, several members of The Pitch team volunteer at Wayside and we cannot overstate how stellar that process has been for our own brain chemistry.
This column features three animals available today to meet with you and yours. Find these pets and many, many more over at the shelter’s website.
I’m Gus, a darling, 10-year-old, 8-pound Chihuahua mix, with the sweetest little face, perky ears, and an affectionate, goofy, delightful personality. I’m already housebroken, too. Like many Chihuahuas, I’m a quirky little fella who likes to do things in my own way and on my own time schedule. I will be happiest in a calm and quiet home with a small inner circle of one or two people who will give me lots of attention while respecting my boundaries. If you’re my people, I want to sit in your lap and cuddle all day long. I love getting my chest rubbed, playing with my toys, and solving puzzle toys that involve treats. I’m an excellent listener and I understand a whole litany of words. I may be a senior, but you’d never guess it when I grab a special toy and get the zoomies around the house. I’m just a fun, happy, goofy dog, happy to feel like part of the family.

Scooby
Purrs to meet you, I’m Scooby, 2-year-old handsome guy who is very friendly and social. I am also a social eater which means we can enjoy mealtimes together and chat about our day. That being said, I am a full-figure guy working to be at a healthier weight so I will need a dietary plan. Hey, we all have our “things” right? I also love treats, Temptations specifically. Fitting, huh? I love to be held and told I am your ‘one-and-only’. We have a sunroom here, and I so enjoy going in there to feel the warm sun and do a little bird watching. If you are looking for a dashing boy who loves to enjoy the simple things in life, we should meet!

Bella
I’m Bella, an adorable, 8-month-old, 33-pound Hound mix, with gentle, soulful eyes, beautiful brindle fur, a bright smile, and a charming, delightful personality. A typical Hound, I like to follow my nose and explore my surroundings. As a pup, I will need time, attention, and continued training. I am smart and eager to learn, so training me is fun. Plus, I love all the treats, so be sure to share some with me when I’m a good girl. I will thrive in a positive environment and a patient home with plenty of praise and encouragement to help me learn what you expect from me.
I love taking walks around the Wayside campus, following my nose, and sometimes pulling on my leash when I need to investigate an interesting smell. I’m an energetic and athletic dog, so I will need daily exercise to help me stay happy, healthy, and calm. I love everyone I meet, and I should get along well in a wide variety of homes. You can meet me at Wayside Waifs.
