Waifs of the Week: Freya, Heidi, and a snuggle expert named Alpine

Unnamed

Waifs of the Week is a collaboration between The Pitch and the local animal shelter Wayside Waifs. Over at 3901 Martha Truman Road, this ‘no kill’ shelter is constantly working to find loving homes for animals, including dogs, cats, and a host of other intriguing additions to your family.

If you’re not in a position to adopt but want to help out with the cause, or just spend more time with furry friends, several members of The Pitch team volunteer at Wayside and we cannot overstate how stellar that process has been for our own brain chemistry.

This column features three animals available today to meet with you and yours. Find these pets and many, many more over at the shelter’s website.

Freya

Unnamed 2

Hi there, I’m Freya! I’m such a nice friend and as cute as a button. I’ll be happy to exercise and explore and play all day long, followed by lots of affectionate cuddles and snuggles. In between, I’m eager to learn and to show you how smart I am. I might seem shy when we first meet, but once we bond, I will be your loyal friend forever. I understand what it means to be part of a loving family, and I can’t wait to share my zest for life with you. I’m already mostly housebroken and crate trained, too, although please stay patient with me when we get home. I have been through a lot of change and instability lately, and an adjustment period is perfectly normal. All I want to do is cuddle, play, and hang out a little each day. I can’t wait to be part of a family again, with everything that goes along with that. I want to be by your side through all of it, your constant companion. Always. Let me show you how it feels to be loved unconditionally. That’s what I do best. Learn more about me here.

Heidi

Unnamed 3

Hi there, I’m Heidi! I might start out a little shy but give me just a moment and you’ll see how much love I have to share. I’m only a year old, with a sleek black coat and a heart that’s truly one of a kind. Once I feel comfortable, I turn into the sweetest, friendliest girl! You’ll usually find me rolling around in my kennel, hoping you’ll notice me and come say hello. I’m a social cat who enjoys gentle affection, soft voices, and people who take their time. When the mood hits, I can be quite playful too! Whether it’s batting at a toy or wiggling around for attention, I love finding little ways to make you smile. You should know that I am FeLV+, so I’ll need a home that understands my needs. I’ll either have to be your only cat or live with another FeLV+ friend. But trust me, I have so much love to give, and I’m ready to brighten someone’s life in the sweetest way. Learn more about me here.

Alpine

Unnamed

Hi there, I’m Alpine! I’m your soon-to-be best friend, adventure buddy, and full-time snuggle expert! I’m a 1-year-old mixed breed boy with a whole lot of love to give. The first thing you should know about me? I adore people. Truly. If you sit down, I’ll probably try to curl right up in your lap… even if I don’t quite fit. I’m convinced I’m a lap dog, and honestly, I think I make a pretty great one! I enjoy being around other dogs, too! I’m a social guy, but I’d like to meet potential dog friends first so we can make sure we’re a good match. Once I’m comfortable, I’m all about play bows, wiggles, and fun. I’m an active pup with lots of energy and enthusiasm for life. If you love exercise, adventures, or just getting outdoors, I’m your guy! If you’re searching for a sweet, loving, energetic friend who will make your days brighter and your heart fuller, come meet me. I’m so ready to find my person… could that be you? Learn more about me here.
