Waifs of the Week: Cleo, Xavier, and a cat named Sweet Pea
Waifs of the Week is a collaboration between The Pitch and the local animal shelter Wayside Waifs. Over at 3901 Martha Truman Road, this ‘no kill’ shelter is constantly working to find loving homes for animals, including dogs, cats, and a host of other intriguing additions to your family.
If you’re not in a position to adopt but want to help out with the cause, or just spend more time with furry friends, several members of The Pitch team volunteer at Wayside and we cannot overstate how stellar that process has been for our own brain chemistry.
This column features three animals available today to meet with you and yours. Find these pets and many, many more over at the shelter’s website.
Cleo:
Hi there, I’m Cleo! I’m an 11-year-old wire-haired terrier lady, and I’m looking for a cozy spot to spend my golden years. If you’re searching for a calm, affectionate companion, I might just be your paw-fect match. My absolute favorite thing in the world is being a little couch potato princess. I love nothing more than staying close to my people, soaking up all the attention and pets you’re willing to give. I truly excel at being a professional lap dog, so if you have an open lap, I’m ready to fill it. When it comes to other dogs, I am a total fan of just coexisting. I’m happy to share my space with another canine friend as long as they let me do my own thing. Because of my easygoing, gentle nature, I think I would do wonderfully in just about any kind of home. I’m just a sweet, quiet girl ready to bring a lot of love to someone’s life… Could that be with you? Click here to learn more about me!
Sweet Pea:
Hi there, my name’s Sweet Pea and it’s so nice to meet you! I’m a handsome 2-year-old tabby boy, and my name says it all; I am an absolute sweetheart who loves nothing more than staying right by my people’s side! If you are looking for a loyal, velcro companion to join you in whatever you’re doing, I am definitely your guy. While I love to cuddle up close, I also have a lot of youthful energy and a big brain! I am looking for a home that can give me plenty of extra playtime and mental enrichment to keep me happy and active. Whether it’s chasing feather wands, figuring out puzzle feeders, or learning new games, I’m always up for a fun challenge. Because I have a big purrsonality and know what I like, I will need a cat-savvy adopter who understands feline body language and can give me the perfect balance of play and affection. So if you’re looking for a smart, active, and deeply devoted best friend to share your days with, then I might just be the boy for you! Let’s start our next adventure together. Xavier:
Hello there, I’m Xavier. I’m an 8.5-year-old retriever mix, and I like to think of myself as a distinguished, mature gentleman. Although I can be shy at first, with your patience and love, I promise the reward is so worth it! Once I feel completely comfortable and safe with you, my wonderful goofy side comes right out. My favorite way to show you I’m happy is by proudly jaunting around the room with a squeaky stuffy in my mouth before leaning all my weight into you for some well-deserved pets. To be completely honest, I really love my stuffies… but I love my people even more! Because I want to keep all your affection to myself, I must be the only dog in the home. If you have a quiet home and a heart full of patience for a sweet older guy who just wants to love you fiercely, please come ask to meet me. Don’t forget to bring a squeaky toy!
