Waifs of the Week: Boots, Hawthorne, and a cat named Butter Toffee

Unnamed

Waifs of the Week is a collaboration between The Pitch and the local animal shelter Wayside Waifs. Over at 3901 Martha Truman Road, this ‘no kill’ shelter is constantly working to find loving homes for animals, including dogs, cats, and a host of other intriguing additions to your family.

If you’re not in a position to adopt but want to help out with the cause, or just spend more time with furry friends, several members of The Pitch team volunteer at Wayside and we cannot overstate how stellar that process has been for our own brain chemistry.

This column features three animals available today to meet with you and yours. Find these pets and many, many more over at the shelter’s website.

Boots:

Unnamed

I’m Boots! I’m a two-year-old Terrier mix who is looking for a very special place to call my own. I’m a sweet, goofy guy with a big heart, though I’m a bit on the shy side when I first meet new people. Because the world can feel a little overwhelming to me sometimes, I’m currently enrolled in a wonderful training program called LIFT. It’s been amazing for me because it’s teaching me how to build my confidence and work on my impulse control. I’m a bright boy who loves learning new things, especially when there are some tasty treats involved! Once I get to know you and feel safe, my true personality really shines through. I absolutely adore my toys and will happily show off my zoomies when I get excited! While I have plenty of energy for play, I also have a very sweet, mellow side. There’s nothing I love more than receiving gentle pets from my favorite humans or just curling up on the couch to hang out and relax after a busy day. I’m the perfect balance of a fun-loving playmate and a loyal couch potato. If you are a patient person who is willing to give me the time I need to warm up, I promise to reward you with a lifetime of goofy smiles and unconditional devotion. Learn more about me here.

Butter Toffee:

Unnamed 1

Meow there, my name is Butter Toffee! Just like my name suggests, I’m a sweet treat with a lot of personality. I’m a two-year-old fellow who loves to be right in the middle of whatever is happening. I’m a very social guy and I genuinely enjoy the company of people, whether we are playing together or just hanging out. I’m quite spunky and full of life, so I’m looking for a home where I can stay active and engaged with my family. One of the best things about me is how well I get along with others. I have a great history of living with both cats and dogs, so I’m a wonderful candidate for a multi-pet household. As long as my new siblings are friendly, I’m happy to share my space and make some new best friends. If you’re looking for a social, spunky, and handsome guy to add some flavor to your life, I’m the perfect match for you. I can’t wait to find a family that will appreciate my outgoing spirit and continue to help me grow my confidence! Learn more about me here.

Hawthorne:

Unnamed 2

Hi there, I’m Hawthorne! I am the sweetest boy, who wants nothing more than to be pet, cuddled, and doted on. I love being by your side and soaking up every single ounce of attention that you give me. I know what it means to be a beloved member of a family. I want that again. I hope maybe I can bring a little extra sunshine and joy to your life simply by being your dog. I’m a handsome, 6-year-old, 67-pound Lab mix, with a bright smile, gentle, soulful eyes, a heart of gold, and a happy, lovely personality. I’m already housebroken, too! Here at the shelter, I’m feeling sort of confused and stressed, which makes sense when you think about the changes I’ve been through. However, the moment I step out of the shelter environment, I am a different dog! Just being with my people helps me to feel happy, safe, and content. I’d love a quiet, low traffic home without a lot of commotion and with people who enjoy being with me. I want to be an active, engaged, and important member of the family. Would we make a good match?
