Vintage Twist
The King Khan & BBQ show is the decency-wrecking union of two music scholars. Mark Sultan (BBQ) multitasks on vocals, guitar and a foot-triggered drum kit. Blacksnake (King Khan) croons and beats the hell out of vintage guitars on reverb ‘roids. The Montreal duo’s inspirations include early gospel, R&B vocal groups, juke-joint blues, doo-wop, rockabilly, garage punk, beat and psychedelia. Imagine a less drug-addled 13th Floor Elevators. Since hooking up in 2004, the duo has toured the bejeezus out of the world and connected with the waveform-clipping garage-rock imprint In the Red Records. Admirers such as Jon Spencer and the Sadies have covered KK & BBQ tunes, and you can bet that locals the KC Bear Fighters and the Spook Lights will be amped to set the stage for the group’s performance tonight at the Jackpot Music Hall (943 Massachusetts in Lawrence, 785-832-1085). Tickets cost $8.
