The ginger in Generation Ginger, at the Charlotte Street Foundation’s Urban Culture Project, doesn’t refer to redheaded people.
It’s about the pungent plant with medicinal qualities that’s often used for seasoning.
Generation Ginger — inspired by second-generation Indian-American Ritu Nanos’ experiences as a mother to multi-ethnic children and as a partner in an interracial marriage — seeks to explore the roots of cultural identity. Nanos’ website, generationginger.com, serves as a reference point for those who identify with and are curious about Indian culture. Learn more tonight at La Esquina (1000 West 25th Street, 816-221-5115) when she talks about cultural integration and uses dance, music and visual images in the telling of Prahalad, a mythological Indian tale. Expect hands-on activities such as henna tattooing and sari wrapping. The free exhibit runs from 8 until midnight.
